Good neighbors

This program is designed to bring Aracruz into closer contact with farmers and residents living in areas neighboring the Company’s eucalyptus plantations and native forest reserves in Espírito Santo and Bahia. Through visits of landowners to Aracruz’s facilities in both states, topics of common interest are raised and discussed.

In 2004, 9 meetings were held with the participation of 276 persons in the municipalities of Aracruz, Conceição da Barra, Serra and Fundão (ES), Ibirapuã and Alcobaça (BA). Among the subjects that were debated were issues linked to environmental legislation, the Forestry Partners Program, efforts to combat fires in the countryside, the correct handling of agricultural defenses, methods to combat leaf cutting ants and the alternative use of Aracruz’s forests for beekeeping activities to produce honey.
