The frequency rate – the number of accidents per 1 million kilometers driven – declined 13.3% in 2004.

Since 1999, the Aracruz Transportation Monitoring Network (RMT) has operated with the help of volunteers who help to monitor the logging truck traffic on the BR-101 highway along the stretch between Aracruz (ES) and Eunápolis (BA). The network seeks to reduce highway accidents involving the heavy trucks that transport logs on the BR-101 and to encourage the observance of preventive road safety procedures by service suppliers in the area.

Starting this year, Veracel, Cenibra and Bahia Sul – who also use the BR-101 highway – began participating in the network.

Based on the information received by RMT members, these companies are able to engage in preventive and corrective monitoring of the logging truck traffic.

In 2004, we recorded 59 traffic accidents, and the frequency rate (the number of accidents per 1 million kilometers traveled) during the year was 1.3, compared with 1.5 the year before, a reduction of 13.3%.
