We select our suppliers based on their competence and specialization in the fields in which they are active.

At the end of 2004, Aracruz operated with 164 outsourced service suppliers, of which 83 had permanent contracts (involving about 8,248 employees) and 81 had temporary contracts (involving about 3,000 employees).

Suppliers are selected based on criteria involving competence and specialization in their fields. They are also instructed to meet environmental and social requirements through contractual clauses. They are alerted to the necessity of full compliance with labor legislation – including regulations on workplace safety, occupational health and the complete prohibition of any type of child labor.

The Integrated Development and Qualification of Suppliers Program (PRODFOR) was created in Espírito Santo in 1997 through a joint initiative of the main local companies and the Federation of Industrial Companies (FINDES), under the coordination of the Euvaldo Lodi Institute/Institute for the Development of Industry (IEL/IDEIES). Since the creation of PRODFOR, 268 companies have signed the term of agreement and have gone through the qualification process. Of these, 156 have valid certificates, 15 are already certified under ISO 9001/2000 while 47 of them will undergo the process in 2005.
